University of Nairobi receives Scholarship Donation of Kshs. 8.3M from Direct Aid
The University of Nairobi today, Wednesday, November 20, 2024, received over Kshs. 8.3M ( Eight Million) donation from Direct Aid as scholarship for needy students. The cheque handover ceremony was held in a morning meeting at the University’s Main Campus. The Vice-Chancellor (Ag), Prof. Margaret Hutchinson received the cheque, witnessed by the Chair of Council, Prof. Amukowa Anangwe, alongside other council members.
Dr. Ismail Hassan Hussein, the Country Director of Direct Aid, presented the cheque on behalf of the non-profit organization. Direct Aid has been a steadfast supporter of humanitarian and social welfare programs in Kenya for over 29 years, with its scholarship program enabling thousands of Kenyans to realize their professional aspirations.
In her remarks, Prof. Hutchinson expressed profound gratitude to Direct Aid, emphasizing the transformative impact the scholarships will have on the lives of students. “This generous support will go a long way in helping our deserving students achieve their dreams. Notably, it will foster growth in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence through initiatives like the Nairobi School of AI under our Big 5 Agenda,” she noted.
Prof. Anangwe also commended Direct Aid for its generosity, underscoring the university’s eagerness to deepen ties with the organization. “This partnership demonstrates the shared commitment to empowering the youth and building a brighter future for Kenya. We look forward to more collaborations that will advance educational and social welfare causes,” he said.
